Is your website ready for the European Accessibility Act?

Why this matters now

The European Accessibility Act has applied since 28 June 2025. Businesses that sell products or services to consumers in the EU — online shops, booking, banking, transport, e-books and more — must make their websites and apps accessible.

National authorities began supervising in 2025 and are stepping up enforcement through 2026. Penalties are set per country and range from a few thousand euros to over €1 million. In Germany, the BFSG has already produced a wave of cease-and-desist letters.

Micro-enterprises providing services (fewer than 10 staff and no more than €2 million turnover) are exempt. This is general information, not legal advice.

Honest by design

Automated testing reliably catches around 30–40% of accessibility requirements — the ones a machine can check, like missing text alternatives, contrast and form labels. It can’t judge whether your alt text is meaningful, or whether a screen-reader user can actually finish your checkout.

So we don’t sell a “compliance certificate”, and we don’t sell an overlay widget. Overlays don’t fix the underlying code, and their vendors have faced regulatory action. What you get is a precise, prioritised list of real defects — the necessary first step, at a price that makes it easy to take.
